This assignment was to capture authentic imagery in an active coal mine. The clothing is marketed toward hard-working men and women in heavy industry. We were challenged on this shoot as this was an active coal mine, which required numerous safety considerations.
For this set of images, I knew that we wanted to show the scale and architectural features of a heavy industry worksite while also telling the story of how the clothing and workers wearing the clothing are subjected to some of the harshest environments on earth. We chose to place the subjects in these situations in a way that communicated a long, unforgiving day.
I walked away with a set of images that are expressive, first of a long day of work and second of a sense of scale. The sharp angles of the processing facility contrast beautifully with the workers and the client was pleased as this image implemented both the model and his surroundings to tell the story.
