The purpose of this poster was to announce the first visit of the California Central Coast wine maker, Sans Liege, to Chicago. The poster was given away at a private underground dinner club event.
The Sans Liege brand is rooted in the art of the German Expressionist movement. A gritty, enigmatic, noir feeling with characters and settings evocative of a Tom Waits song. The approach to this poster was to create a simple and powerful graphic to extend that feeling to the Chicago market. With a weathered visceral urban character and central montage of a wine glass and the Chicago skyline meant to evoke an old film or novel, the poster invites the viewer to be part of the story.
The dinner club event was a sold out success with VINEJOY, the distributor, requesting reprints to frame and additional small-size prints to be used as promotional giveaways.
