The poster celebrates Hatch Show Print’s 140th birthday, and Jim Sherraden: friend, shop’s manager from 1984-2013 (Master Printer and Archivist until 2018). It represents over a decade's worth of summer collaborations and workshops with Watkins College of Art, its graphic design faculty and students.
The linocut portrait was hand carved in advance of the workshop and references my photograph of Sherraden in Watertown, Tennessee. “Inky & Salty” is my embellishment to Hatch's printer/designer Cory Wasnewski’s design…and aptly describes Jim.
The poster was exhibited at “Lordy, Lordy, Look Who’s 140!” in Watkins’s Currey Gallery during the fall of 2019. A birthday party of sorts, with Pin the Tail on the Donkey and a Hatch-inspired cake, the opening reception attracted many creative friends, including our feisty pals at Hatch.
