I was assigned a banned book and create a book jacket that reflects the character traits of the book in a way that would intrigue viewers to want to pick it up and read it.

I wanted to create a juxtaposition between the title of the book and the content that is found inside. Upon hearing the word "rainbow," many think of happiness and joy; however, the topics included in the novel are those full of controversy and social injustices. To combat the two, I create the environment that would take place before a rainbow appears - a storm - and used hand-manipulated typography to make it appear as if it was written on a rainy window. This shows the dreary and sad nature of the novel while still relating back to the subject matter of the title.

This novel has received lots of positive feedback as I took an unexpected turn on what one would expect the cover of this novel to be. Due to the contrast in design, it has been said that it makes the viewer curious as to why a positive word is surrounded by a dull setting. This book jacket has won second place at a previous competition.
