I have always been very cautious about accepting certain logo clients, and dry cleaners were near the top of my list. I did not think it possible to come up with yet another clothes hanger solution, but this idea was fun enough to pursue! I am so glad I followed through on it.
This client needed a symbol that can be used with or without the text. I was aiming for a design the was clean, contemporary, fresh, fun, non-cluttered, non-clumsy, smart, and comfortable. I put the emphasis on the "river," rather than the "stone," which makes sense to me for a dry cleaner. There is lots of water involved in the process, and there is a "flow" metaphor throughout the actual business—clothes moving through the cleaning process, from beginning to end—all parts running and flowing smoothly, etc. I tried to reflect all of this in the design of the mark.
River Stone has seen a surge in their business since their rebrand. Additional assets have been updated including all store signage, silk-screened laundry bags, and other printed materials.
