This project tasked us with designing a brand campaign to promote the Converse Pro Leather High Top, but more importantly, to inspire this generation to champion these shoes as an outlet for ​their own creativity, stories, and communities.

In our research, we found that originality and adaptability are two key principles that have consistently been central to Converse's brand, and to the Pro Leather in particular. However, it seemed that since the 1976 launch of the Pro Leather, the rich history of this shoe, along with those principles, had been lost on our generation. 
The solution we devised was to inspire leading cultural voices of our generation — influencers and "grass roots" communities — to use the Pro Leather as a vehicle to express ​their originality and creativity. We achieved this by collaging the work of a creator with imagery of the shoe itself, essentially depicting the Pro Leather as a platform for creators to "Take Up Space".

This project took place during COVID-19, so we were limited in our access to creators. In the future, we plan to expand the campaign to spotlight creators in a wide variety of fields including film and animation, dance, and fashion design. 
That being said, we were fortunate to have access to Jackie, our group member, whose artwork successfully portrayed our concept. Her distinct style of drawing and painting expresses her perspective as an artist, and when collaged with the shoe, it demonstrates how the Converse Pro Leather is a vehicle for originality and self-expression.
