The goal of this poster was to simply and effectively communicate the message "Housing is a Human Right." Some of the requirements were the implementation of the exact wording as well as displaying a specific public housing project (Old Colony housing project in South Boston, Massachusetts), as per client's request. The client is a consulting firm that works with public and private entities to fight youth homelessness in Massachusetts, USA.
The project was done in the spirit of Soviet posters with their limited color palettes and emphasis on design. I wanted to preserve the uniform nature of public housing while applying slightly different treatment of line and color to each house. This would suggest the uniqueness of each house while not detracting from uniform shapes. The poster was done using printmaking techniques and mixed media, including masking tape, ink, acrylic, and pencil.
The work was reproduced as a single-edition canvas print and shipped to the client. The physical and digital copy will be used in their consulting work and promotion.
