The Westover School was founded in 1901 with a strong and wonderful tradition as an all-girls independent school. The students, faculty, staff, and alumni are truly a family that spans generations. They have a class note section that can be more than 30 pages of text and photos which demonstrates how much the women value their community. When it was time for the Chair of the Art Department and Director of Music to retire after 52 years, it was our goal to create a special issue to celebrate his tenure.

The cover uses a painting of Mr. Havery, created by one of the school's art instructors. Several pages would be used to tell stories of his life before and during Westover, in addition to regular features in the magazine. We decided to approach his pages by combining text and photos from his life with a small timeline of world events to show how 5 decades passed as Mr. Havery continued to shape traditions and programs at the school. We integrated quotes from existing and former students, faculty, and board members who love and admire him.

This issue was particularly well-received as the readers could celebrate and remember their teacher, colleague and friend.
