The guidelines of this assignment were to utilize a previous parent brand and create various subsidiaries inspired by it. My parent brand, a streaming service comparable to Spotify and Apple Music, was the perfect gateway into creating a music festival. To fulfill the requirements of this project, I was instructed to create a logo and various brand elements to explain further and display multiple components of the brand.
To create the branding for a successful music festival, I first spent time researching both trending musical festivals that exist and design trends that would catch the eye of my intended young-adult demographic. After my research, I began to plan my logo design that features a lightning bolt in the stroke of the A. My initial thought was to utilize the lightning bolt icon throughout my creations to symbolize the brand. However, I quickly found that the utilization of multiple icons elevated the appearance of my designs and added an overall unique personality. The icons I decided to include all relate to the edgy voice of the brand and are versatile in the sense that they can be grouped in a variety of ways or stand on their own. To extend the brand further, I decided to create virtual music festival objects, including a wristband, lanyard, and examples of merchandise for sale.
Overall, this branding was positively received by my professors and peers who were in the brand's intended demographics. The eye-catching colors and combination of multiple icons were relevant and unlike something done before. The repetition of the iconography in various patterns and styles gave the brand versatility and flair while remaining cohesive. The objects I designed were also complemented for being trendy and desirable to wear as they were clean and had personality.
