Petron Corporation is the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines and a leading player in the Malaysian market. It leads through partnership and innovation, powering industries, driving economic growth, and fueling the future of the Philippines and Malaysia.
The assignment was for the 2018 year-end report to inform shareholders of the company’s sterling performance in 2018, affirming its continued dominance in the Philippine oil and fuel market, and its major role in the Malaysian fuel market.
Part of the assignment was also to report on how the company as an 85-year old corporate citizen, cared for the community and the environment.
To symbolize Petron’s premier position in the Philippine oil industry – the largest manufacturer of oil products, unrivalled market leader and a force for change, the number “1” took center stage.
It was created as a vertical collage of images featuring the important activities in the life of Petron, a story of sorts, beginning with the delivery of heavy crude oil by an oil tanker to Petron's $2 billion refinery which has a combined refining capacity of nearly 270,000 barrels per day - to the delivery of a full-range of premium fuels and petrochemicals to over 2,400 service stations all over the country – to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects that the company provides thousands of stakeholders.
Inside pages employed a modern design treatment that used different font sizes for different needs (headlines, quotable quotes), info graphics (for important numbers), and full color action shots of happy people (to convey the message of Petron’s customer-centricity). The number “1” collage on the cover was repeated on the inside pages to remind shareholders that they have wisely trusted a blue-chip company, the leader in the oil and fuel industry, with their valued investments.
The 200-page report was distributed to over 1,000 shareholders on May 26, 2019 at the Annual Stockholders Meeting held at the corporate auditorium, and received favorable feedback. It successfully conveyed the message to shareholders that their investments were in good hands.
Shareholders commended the CSR projects featured in the report. Management committed to continue funding these projects.
A coffee table book on the Petron Bataan Refinery will be launched in 2020, which will immortalize the engineering feat of Filipino engineers and technicians who led the building, installation and commissioning of the $2 billion refinery in a record-breaking 14-month period.
