Hawkeye was approached to design a visual identity and package design for Braman Brewery's inaugural line of beer, Running Walker IPA. The beer was named after the Running Walker hound, an iconic Texas hunting dog used to track and hunt predators. The dogs are bold and courageous, even in the face of mountain lions and bobcats. The goal was to produce a package design that honored the tradition and courage behind the legendary dog that protected the Texas plains.
Hawkeye commissioned an illustration of the Running Walker in its iconic empowered stance in the style of an antique engraving. This stance was one that the Running Walker would take when it sensed a predator was near. The markings on the dog were based on an old photograph that was taken of the family dog of Joe Braman, a Running Walker. The illustration was paired with woodblock, hand drawn and script typography that was fitting for a subject so steeped in tradition.
The package design for Running Walker IPA was very well received. Besides loving the fact that his old companion was immortalized on a beer, the traditional approach to the illustration choice and typography design really catered to the Texas roots of the Braman family.
