The assignment was to create a logo for an existing business, based mostly on shapes that resemble each other. The business I originally found was Library Hotel, but after trying to use a bell and a book, my professor and I decided it seemed more like a logo for a diner or restaurant. The idea then became that this would be a hypothetical diner that would have literary themes throughout the menu and atmosphere.

After trying several other hotel related things including a suitcase and an elevator dial, I saw the potential for the flat part on the bottom of a bell to resemble a book. Bells seem to bring to mind old fashioned diners faster than old fashioned hotels, and thus the name was switched. The colors chosen then reflected the new idea of a diner, with the bell now doubling to resemble a hamburger bun and the book resembling the meat.

The logo successfully communicates the idea and the tone of the diner, and encapsulates a theme that is easy to apply across the rest of the branding assets. The branding can now move forward into a bigger expansion of the concept and create consistency in all aspects of the diner’s day to day communications and activities.
