This project was completed as a Master of Design thesis for the University of Washington. The thesis project provides an opportunity for graduate students to conduct advanced design research in order to form an original contribution that enriches the field of design. This thesis explores the complicated relationship between food consumption and environmental conservation.

The first phase of this project involved in-depth research on the subject matter, including a literature review, surveys, participant observation (in grocery stores) and interviews. The literature review included several areas of environmental conservation as well as design practices and techniques for communicating complex information. All numerical data was sourced from United States government databases.

The final artifacts—a series of large-format posters—provide consumers with baseline knowledge regarding food production so that they can: 1) make more meaningful decisions in the marketplace, and 2) have informed conversations about our individual and aggregate consumption of food.
