The brief for this project was to design a new typeface.
Savin is a Sans Serif Typeface designed largely for print applications. It has roots in early Humanist Sans Serifs like Edward Johnstons Underground and Eric Gills Gill Sans and draws on modern influences such as Kris Sowersbys Calibre and Linetos Brown. The aim was to create a face suitable for modern print applications that was traditonal and robust. The forms within Savin depart from the humanist features of Johnstons and Gills faces and instead feature a more geometric form.
Savin the typeface won Gold at the New Zealand Best Design awards as well as a distinction at the Australian Graphic Design Awards.
