To create standout packaging for a new venture - true hand-distilled, handcrafted, hand bottled and labelled gin using locally sourced botanicals and spring water. To achieve this within a tiny budget, whilst still competing in an extremely competitive market sector. The gin is distilled at Harewell House Farm - the client wished to utilise some hare imagery, otherwise the brief was open.

There doesn't seem to be a week goes by without a new gin launch - it is an increasingly crowded sector and very competitive. With no access to a unique bottle – no budget, we had to ensure the label graphics worked really hard. An area we exploited is the handmade nature of the product. This became a central feature - each bottle is hand-stamped, individually signed and numbered by Toby Whittaker, the distiller. Consumers really love this!

Persuading retailers to commit to stocking your product is extremely hard. However a major UK retailer (Majestic Wines) agreed to stock Whittaker's Gin on launch July 2015 in two branches on the strength of just a picture of the packaging. Sales have been so successful, it has gone national (211 stores). It was Fortnum & Mason's white spirit of the month November 2015. Its impact has been phenomenal - the label design has been at the heart of this success, giving it instant recognition and universal praise. So much success, so little a budget, shows what can be achieved through considered design alone.
