The George Gund Foundation was established in 1952 as a private, non-profit institution with the sole purpose of contributing to human well-being and the progress of society. For the past 8 years, Nesnadny + Schwartz (N+S), has created The George Gund Foundation’s Online Annual Report. The firm’s role has been to develop the conceptual and visual theme, create the overall design, and manage production from inception to launch.
The George Gund Foundation required an Online Annual Report that would effectively articulate its activities, achievements, and goals for the 2015 year. Additionally, the project needed to describe the Foundation’s grant-making initiatives to its various constituents, including grant recipients and applicants, trustees, other foundations and corporations, as well as various local, state, and national governmental agencies. To communicate the 2015 Online Annual Report theme of “Changing Minds” — which reports on how The Cleveland Plan is helping to evolve Cleveland’s public schools — N+S commissioned award winning photographer Lisa Kessler, who spent two weeks photographing students of all ages, and pictured how these young minds are changing the perception of Cleveland public schools. N+S designed the website using an accessible user interface, a clean design that emphasized white space, and a gradiated color palette to complement the black and white photography and reinforce the idea of “change.”
The 2015 George Gund Foundation Online Annual Report has received positive reviews and feedback from foundation donors, grant recipients, government officials, school faculty and administrators, and has been lauded for its thoughtful use of fine art photography and objective coverage of a serious and important citywide issue.
