By its very nature a Sesquicentennial is an historic event. Celebrated over a year’s time it celebrates all that is past and all that will be. Our work begins with the development of an iconic representation of our state; a logo if you will.
Our goals for the work include touching every state resident, visually and emotionally. We want to work to increase native Nebraskan pride — we want people to feel something and not be afraid to share that with others. And finally, we want to create a brand that speaks simply to Nebraska’s history and projects those values into the future. We want to create a brand celebrating the 150th birthday of the State of Nebraska. Something real. Genuine. Believable. Nebraska is The Cornhusker State. No other state owns that. Let's celebrate that. By touring the Nebraska State Capitol, we discovered iconography was used throughout the building. Corn plays a prominent role in the building. We adapted one of the corn friezes and modified it, while still keeping the art deco style intact. The illustration not only reflects corn, but its also looks like an office building — a nod to Nebraska's innovation in technology and business.
So far, the logo has been used on everything from the overall identity system to even license plates. The logo and brand will continue to be rolled out in the coming years.
