Students were asked to develop a hypothetical suggestion for a specialty beverage package and possible carrier concept of a beverage of their choosing. For this project any type of average category may be explored, but consideration should be given to the development of specific design theme (i.e. limited edition tribute). Stress was placed on research and creating a desire for the product while communicating something specific around the theme; exploring graphics and typography; and consideration for a carrier concept. Students develop a hypothetical name, develop a logotype, create labels and all graphics.
Bodhi Brewing Company is a beer-centric restaurant and tap room whose focus is to provide a unique and upscale sensory experience for diners and beer enthusiasts alike. Buddhist mythology tells the tale of the Bodhi Tree, a sacred Indian fig tree under which Buddha was said to have achieved enlightenment. In our modern world, the tree has come to be recognized as a resource for seekers of wisdom, and a symbol of the quest for knowledge and spiritual growth. Bodhi Brewing Company embodies a highly developed brand concept based on the principles of imparting knowledge on its customer base to create a following of believers and a generation of “enlightened” beer drinkers.
Inspired by the idea of enlightenment, the brand identity and packaging encompasses a theme of eastern philosophy, using stories from Buddhist mythology to educate consumers on the unique flavors and styles of craft beer. Folklore characters from each story are illustrated on the bottles using vibrant colors and a bold, graphic style; ultimately uniting traditional concepts with contemporary visuals to appeal to the modern market of beer enthusiasts.
