Going to the movie theatre was one of my favorite things to do before the pandemic and I wanted to find a way to bring that experience back in a safe way. I began to conduct surveys and research so I could better understand the issue and any possible solutions. Through my surveys, I found that respondents were more likely to attend a drive-in theatre than a traditional theatre during the pandemic. Additionally, I found that there was a 40% increase in the likelihood of a respondent to attend a drive-in theatre if respondents knew that the experience would be contactless. From this research came the impetus for Cinamobile. I started by creating a task list, and from there began working on User Flows, Lo-Fi’s, user testing, and— finally— Hi-Fi’s. Once I reached the Hi-Fi stage, I created a series of illustrations inspired by 1960’s fashion. I thought 1960’s style characters who were using cell phones would be an interesting juxtaposition (and one that perfectly encapsulated the app concept). I utilized these illustrations in the onboarding portion of the app as an initial touchpoint—as well as for promo purposes.
