I was influenced by the corner portraits of Irving Penn to create a small, minimally descriptive space to suggest the attic in which the story of Anne Frank unfolds. A small set was built and scenic painted on which the young talent was directed. Lighting was to suggest combined desperation and hopelessness of life cloistered in hiding.
