The goal was to create a 12 page magazine spread. Having a history in herbalism the phrase—the difference between poison and medicine is all dosage—has always stuck with me. That became the concept of the magazine. I used bold imagery and colors, as well as strong font choices to make the whole magazine represent the concept. It's bold and brash. It's also playful and fun!
Starting with a hand done banner and selecting a color palette I started building and collecting images. The features stand alone and also work well together. Knowing that I focused on making the rest of my magazine cohesive, to really bring the visual language of POISON together. To do so I chopped up bits of my banner for repetitive elements and stuck to my poisonous color palette. I also really let myself be free and chaotic, knowing thats where I often find balance.
I'm very proud of this. Its the first thing I've created in the PCC design program where I felt like I could fully express myself. This course with Nathan Savage has been extremely freeing creatively. During this project I really hit my stride with my designs. I submitted this for my final this morning and we ended critique by looking over my entire magazine. Nathan said "my face is melted off." It is a success.
