I decided to photograph an auto spray-painter because it offered a simplistic interior location and an activity that would have plenty of drama with the clouds of paint.
I retouched out a distracting, green, neon light-fixture but left the reflection it made, in an otherwise very minimal color-palette setting. I placed the brightest side of my subject 2 stops darker than the background, emphasized the eye being directed to the main subject and the position of the main light accentuated the cloud of spray, against the darker background. I had him hold the sprayer pipe, so the curve would echo the shape of the metal being painted.
