Develop an identity for a highly effective, evidence-based program for low-income students called Beat the Odds: Social and Emotional Skill Building Delivered in a Framework of Drumming. It integrates the power of contemporary drum circles with group counseling to build strengths such as focus and listening, team building, leadership, expressing feelings, managing anger/stress, empathy, & gratitude.
We wanted to make it clear that this is a program for and about children, but give the logo sufficient professionalism that it also had credibility from an academic perspective. A bright color palette coupled with a clean design ethic and a strong visual concept created just the right balance.
The program is highly successful and well-recognized as a standout in the field of social and emotional development. The identity has become extremely well accepted and works as the cornerstone for other programs developed by UCLArts and Healing.
