The project of Tanja Devetak and Eduard Čehovin, BAUHAUS ON A VISIT, is inspired and ties in with the 100th anniversary of the world-famous Bauhaus school (originally Staatliches Bauhaus), which opened its doors in April 1919 in Weimar, Germany.
The BAUHAUS ON A VISIT project lasted for nine months, from 24 April 2019 to 20 December 2019. Nine (9) installations were produced, created using the same size frames measuring 80 x 100 x 4 cm and featuring a variety of design solutions inside/around/outside that looked into the subject at hand. Nine different quotes from the Bauhaus authors and educators were used: Anni Albers, Josef Albers, Gunta Stölzl, Herbert Bayer, Otti Berger, Walter Gropius, Marianne Brandt and Johannes Itten. The compositions of the newly created design works reinterpret the quotes using a variety of techniques, materials and mediums. The latter have been chosen according to the contemporary nature of the term and the referential consistency of the subject that follows through in the BAUHAUS ON A VISIT project (weaving, screen printing, mobile installation, embroidery, wood, textiles, paper, metal ...). The investigative and educational approach to pictorial articulation provides an insight into the meaning and structure of an important phenomenon in the field of design and architecture – the Bauhaus. The exhibition projects are based on the statement of Walter Gropius: “Our guiding principle was that design is neither an intellectual nor a material affair, but simply an integral part of the stuff of life, necessary for everyone in a civilized society.”
And finally all nine installations for the first time were exhibited together in MGLC - International Center of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana, Slovenia on 13.8.2020.
