Name, graphic identity and packaging for the first product launched by a landscaping company: a compost tea kit. Compost tea is a liquid, nutrient-rich fertilizer that enhances biological activity across an entire garden. Typically, parts and know-how is assembled by ‘DIY’ gardeners who experiment with and build their own systems. The ‘tea’ does not always work because homemade composts vary tremendously. Our client aimed to package their expertise with step-by-step instruction and all the materials needed to harness the benefits of compost tea.
We targeted the climate-conscious, urban gardener who desires a green alternative to chemical-based gardening. Embracing the comic contradiction of a posh afternoon tea vs. sipping a manure brew, we named our compost tea kit the ‘Manure Brewer’ and developed the product’s brandmark, a gardener’s prized glamour-rose invigorated by ‘the brew’.
Thus, the urban gardener’s analog nostalgia is turned into an artful, sketch-like brand identity. The whimsical ‘Manure Brewer’ brandmark demonstrates the benefit of compost tea while sitting prettily on the shelves of a boutique garden shop or sent as a gift to a hipster homesteader.
