Logo development for a Japanese restaurant “Hamamatsuya”. “Hamamatsuya” has been opened since the postwar days and is deeply rooted in the local area, however, they were making a fresh start with a new generation owner, intending to seek a new market so our assignment was to develop a logo that would be accepted by men and women of all ages.
Inspired from the restaurant’s style of serving combination of Japanese traditional and western dishes, we used a spoon, a folk and chopsticks as motifs. With those motifs illustrated with the name of the restaurant, the logo depicts the varieties of services that restaurant provides at a glance. Japanese modern style is portrayed in the designed kanji, which appeals to broad age groups.
Old Japanese restaurants are generally not so popular from young people however, the young generation of customers to “Hamamatsuya” increased, seeking for a Japanese modern style. The restaurant is also recognized by tourists as one of the lively spots in the deserted area and they succeed to gain recognition.
