Since PAX South is a gaming expo which includes tabletop, arcade, computer, and console games, the goal when redesigning their logo was to create a symbol to encompass all the various forms of gaming. For the first two logos, the main idea was to merge iconic retro symbols with modern gaming symbols to appeal to nostalgia for the older generation of games while still being current with the newer generation of games. The first logo does this by using the color and shape of the buttons on arcade games with the symbols one would see on current game controllers. The second combines the iconic shape of a joystick with the ball being replaced with the power symbol seen on all current technology. Finally, the third logo simply merges a common directional pad with the added modification of the up directional to the shape of Texas to imply where the expo is being held.
