The Disposable Film Festival is an annual juried international festival of short films made using casual, lo-fi video capture devices like cell phones, point and shoot cameras, webcams, and inexpensive handycams. In 2015 we worked with Carlton Evans, co-director of the festival, to create an identity that could be retrofitted and reused for years to come.

Building upon the identity’s custom typographic system of letterforms in various states of collapse, the hero poster features a large Roman numeral X filled populated film stills taken from each of the previous years winning entries. The stills are set within the X in such a way as to mirror the identity’s crumpled characteristics. We applied the same method to create a trailer for the festival which contained moving images within the X to tie the featured marketing together.

The client has been very pleased with the strength and versatility of the identity over the past three years. We hope to continue to work with them for years to come. The Disposable Film Festival kicks off in San Francisco March 30–April 2 before traveling to other venues around the world.
