Hippos & Hashbrowns is a small batch bakery located in Dallas, Texas. The bakery is family-run and dedicated to providing wholesome treats made from healthy ingredients, with the belief that food nourishes more than the body and that good food is part of a good life. My assignment was to design a logo for this company.
Approach
The company name comes from the fact that the founders of the bakery spent nearly 15 years in rural Africa where they lived 8 hours from the nearest grocery store. There, they mastered the art of stocking a pantry and cooking with what you have. They chose the name as a reference to their time spent in Africa. I approached the logo design with the goal of combining the ideas of baking (oven mitt) and their unique experience in Africa (the hippo).
Results
The result is a mark that is simple yet conveys these two distinctive qualities that are special to the company’s founding and philosophy towards food.
