Blue Bayou tells the heartbreaking story of Antonio LeBlanc, a Korean adoptee raised in the United States who is forced to confront his distant past and what it means for his own future and his family's when he unexpectedly faces deportation. This is a story that is timely and hits on many levels, so the art needed to have an element of hope to capture the beautiful and emotional tone of the film without feeling too somber or political. The family aspect of the film was very important to the show creator, especially the daughter, along with the bayou as a backdrop.

We looked for imagery that tapped into themes of breaking apart family, a sense of belonging (or lack thereof), identity, where you come from / where you belong. The film hits on so many emotions that are hard to depict in a still image, so we sought to capture that with using the right treatment or caught moment to make the viewer think "wow.”

We landed on two separate pieces of art for this. The first taps into the emotional and beautiful story of the love between Justin Chon and Alica Vikander’s characters. This particular image is set amid a festive backdrop, but has a strange sadness to it that foreshadows the path the story will take. The second piece is a more direct look at the tragedy of the story and its impact on this family. To tap into the bayou setting, we created a logo styled on tattoo lettering from that region that also alluded to the main character's occupation as a tattoo artist. The client and the filmmakers were thrilled with the art and the story it told.
