The National approached me to design a limited edition screen printed poster for their show at the Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee, WI (September 2022). These posters would be sold as official merchandise at the show.

The band had pulled samples of my past poster/illustration works as a point of reference. I tend to pitch concepts that either connect to the artist's music and/or reference the city, state, time of year or am "insider" reference.

In the case of The National the brief was fairly open ended they simply wanted it to feel in my style.

The illustration was inspired by Wisconsin's state bird the American Robin. It's meant to symbolize the delicate and vulnerable aspects of The National's music while commemorating the location of the show. There's a notion in there too about survival and how we build support systems around ourselves.

The posters sold out the day of the show. We ended up printing an alternate colorways for sale exclusively to their fan club which also sold out. Then proceeded to adapt the artwork for tee shirts. It was a hit and the band loved it!
