Petron Corporation is the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines. In 2015, it reported a banner year in spite of an oil glut, a weak global economy that resulted in low oil prices, steep competition at home, and tighter product specifications. The annual report aimed to show how Petron bucked the trend: by “going full speed” (tagline) using its advantages (locally produced and formulated world-class fuels, innovative products and services), its most ambitious and single biggest investment (Bataan Refinery Phase 2 worth $2 billion) completed in record-breaking time; and its successful entry and performance in Malaysia.
Petron opted for a clean white background as the canvas on which an edgy layout would be mounted. Fonts, colors, graphics and crisp images in different combinations yet in perfect harmony conveyed a company unafraid to be unique, different, and aggressive. The cover, a complex juxtaposition of graphic elements, simulates a service station from which arise vertical “bars” made up of words trumpeting the year’s milestones. The tagline “Going Full Speed” was represented by the “running” miniature squares on the cover, and repeated in every page to convey the speed with which Petron pursues the completion of its goals, its projects, its vision. The $2 billion refinery project was featured in several pages to underscore its role in the advancement of the local oil industry and the company’s contribution to nation building.
The Petron 2015 Annual Report was first distributed at the Petron Stockholders' Meeting on May 17, 2016 to 2,000 shareholders. It was posted over the Petron website for access by 150,000 shareholders worldwide. The Petron 2016 Annual Report won a Bronze “Stevie” from The International Business Awards in the category 2016 Best Annual Report - Print - Asia Pacific. The competition drew a total of 3,800 entries from 60 countries.
