The goal of this assignment was to create a few magazines spread with two articles, one of which would be a featured article. In order to achieve this, the design must have a sense of unity throughout the cover, table of contents, and both articles while still being able to differentiate the two from each other.
Approach
I decided to create a magazine called Trill that would feature places around New York City in order to get teens and young adults to explore more and see what the city has to offer. I used a museum called the Color Factory and a music venue called Baby's All Right to set a hip aesthetic and contrast each other in order to tell the articles apart. I wanted the magazine to appeal to a younger audience so I tried to maintain a balance between whitespace, design, and color in order to appeal modern and catch the eye.
Results
The ending product uses accents of spray paint and a lot of movement in the typography in order to give movement to the piece and entertain the eye. The pops of color and edgy type give a youthful, bold look in order to attract a younger audience. The two articles look as if they belong together through the kinetic type and bright colors, however differ enough to acknowledge the featured.
