The poster series promotes the wasteNOT Collaborative initiative and two corresponding community events. The events focus on society’s dependence and careless overuse as well as thoughtless disposal of plastic. Committed to not adding to waste through our making, community events simultaneously served as plastic collection resources, upcycling workshops, and educational forums. The art and design products of the events are created entirely with salvaged and repurposed plastic.
The series establishes several elements of the system used in a subsequent poster, such as the laser cut circle pattern and grid. The image of the plastic bag is an indication of the [plastic] material focus of the work. The laser cut pattern presents an interactive way to create the word "waste" by weaving sliced threads of plastic bags through the poster surface. Each poster in the series is unique.
The poster was printed and laser cut locally, on 100% post consumer recycled local French paper that is produced with 100% hydropower. Collaborators cut plastic and wove "waste," creating a consistent, yet variable system.
