In it’s fourth season, HBO wanted to find a unique and different way to cut through the advertising clutter while remaining true to the show’s brilliant yet subtle sense of humor.
Silicon Valley is easily one of HBO’s most popular shows and one with a fiercely loyal audience. An audience that eagerly awaits a new season of the show the moment another season closes. We wanted to hint to the narrative of the new season— Richard separating the group— while capturing the aspirational nature of the real Silicon Valley in way that’s witty yet relevant to the show. Technology is an ever-changing landscape where every world-changing idea is just around the corner. Above all, we needed creative that felt fresh and different, yet on-brand with the show. Ultimately we partnered with famed illustrator Daniel Clowes to illustrate what could be a caught moment in the Hacker Hostel, with the subtle nod to Richard’s exit from the group.
The response to this campaign has been overwhelming. Everyone was excited about the creative— from the HBO marketing team to the talent and showrunners. Each cast member posted the first release of the creative on Instagram and the fans were thrilled. At the time of this submission, the campaign was being posted.
