Every year, nearly one hundred thousand Japanese vanish without a trace. Driven by shame and hopelessness, they leave behind lost jobs, disappointed families, and mounting debts. Underground Museum, LA held an exhibition to uncover the human faces behind the phenomenon through photos and interviews with those who left, those who stayed behind, and those who help orchestrate the disappearances.
I created a logo for Underground Museum by enhancing the idea of below the horizon line. And the catalog design that mimicing the wrapped packaging echos to the moving and disappearing experience of the eveprated people of Japan, who left their beloved ones in a harry. The materials I chose and the design solution indicates the softness and the fragility of human souls.
The overall branding and the exhibition design really tied together as a whole, while the materials and format of the design outcomes are experimental and unusual.
