BrabantKennis Developing knowledge together on the future of the Brabant society. BrabantKennis (‘BrabantKnowledge’) is a platform, initiated by the province of Noord-Brabant, which collects, developes and shares strategic knowledge and information originated in and about the Brabant region. BrabantKennis ‘wants to think ahead independently; it studies the future of the Brabant society from alternating perspectives and with various partners’. The province of Noord-Brabant is a region in which knowledge is the primary matter for innovation. For that reason, BrabantKennis wants to circulate knowledge between Brabant’s businesses, knowledge institutions, governments and civilians.
Identity leads to interactionThe positioning and the visual identity of the BrabantKennis knowledge platform was developed in close collaboration between the BrabantKennis organization and Total Public. The corporate identity focuses on the content and stimulates the imagination and curiosity of the visitors. Infographics and crossmedial applications on the platform itself provide interaction with Brabant’s civilians, businesses and institutions. Information, knowledge and data are brought to life in an innovative manner and made accessible for a large audience.
EventsApart from sharing knowledge through publications, BrabantKennis organizes events that stimulate the dialogue on trending topics in Brabant. Current trends and issues are brought to attention. Visualizations like animations, video and presentations are used as a strategic toolbox and source of inspiration, to discuss the future of the region with ‘game changers’: scientists, governors and entrepreneurs. This facilitates them to find strategic direction for the region.
Trend booklets BrabantKennis published 10 booklets, with the title ‘Kiemen’ (‘germs’) on trending topics in Noord-Brabant, with the regional elections of 2015 as motive. The Kiemen provide issues to discuss in society and feed the social interaction between civilians, entrepreneurs and politicians. The first booklet was presented during the BrabantKennis ‘Trend Day’ in november 2014; the last one was published May 2015 for the ‘Kiemen van Brabant’ seminar. The participants of this seminar received the total box with the 10 ‘Kiemen’-booklets. The booklets are deliberately designed as ‘handy’ on the one hand, high quality on the other, in order to provide ‘nice to have’-objects for all stakeholders.
Annual report: Horizon 2014–2015 The annual report ‘Horizon 2014–2015, a review of a year of developments in knowledge and kknowledge sharing, uses innovative perspectives on knowledge, information and data, directed at a large audience; via QR-codes, links are being made to sources, multimedia and other publications, in order to, again, connect both the knowledge itself and the parties involved.
Longreads From August until the end of 2015, three ‘longreads’ (from a total series of 5) were published, providing the input for the next ‘Kijk op Brabant’-dag (View on Brabant Day) on March 24th 2016. The longreads have a perspective which goes beyond numbers: they deepen insights in the Brabant society, based on themes like ‘Living’, ‘Manufacturing’ or ‘Happiness’. http://brabantkennis.nl/zijn-we-wel-gelukkig/ http://brabantkennis.nl/is-gemiddeld-goed-genoeg/ http://brabantkennis.nl/blijft-brabant-t-maken/
Link Link is a good example of an essay, published as an interactive PDF. The essay invites the reader to share knowledge on ‘the circual city’. The design uses both offline and online elements.
The development of the corporate identity, tooling and content strategy for BrabantKennis is a continuous work in progress. During 2015, the identity grew mature and became a full identity. We deliberately did not define standards on publishing tools, but each time use the trending topics and the generated content to develop made to measure content, tools and design, using basic form elements as the sole precondition.
