Lauden Nute is a low-brow artist/illustrator with a love for everything grotesque and grime. Madison College and Lauden approached me to create a poster for his upcoming art show. Lauden's only direction was "I don't want it to feel like something I would make."
Lauden is a seriously talented illustrator, but never takes himself or the subject matter of his work, too seriously. He's faced rejections and snobbery from the art community because his work pushes the boundaries between art and commerce. I then created a series of posters poking fun at some hypothetical reviews and rejections by fictitious art critics. And to add fuel to the fire, we named it a "fart show." Instead of an opening reception, we created an "eviction celebration."
Besides from all the snooty art critics, Lauden's work was well received and one of the most popular shows of the year in the Gallery at Truax.
