To design a retrospective of Mohammed Kazem, one of the most prominent artists since the establishment of the United Arab Emirates as a country.
Kazem's most important body of work revolved around coordinates of locations in the sea. It is a very personal subject to him and has been working with the same theme for many years. Fikra's approach to the book is to echo Kazem artistic style, while using the idea of coordinates.
The results was quite strong, whereas we created a texture on the cover the book made out of small text of coordinates found in Kazem's work. The texture is inspired by his artistic style, where he etches the paper in creating this embossing effect. The gesture is subtle, really being true to Kazem's work. The artist believed that the solution was "spot on", and really reflected his work. He also then used the artwork used on the cover in a new artwork.
