Compassion: Ending the Stigma is an educational campaign designed by the Colorado AIDS Project to end HIV stigma. The symbol needed to communicate caring, Colorado, and HIV/AIDS awareness in a positive way.
I have always tried to use symbols that have commonly accepted meanings, but only if they could be integrated in a unique way that creates a deceptively simple mark. So the question became: could a heart (caring), the mountains (Colorado), and the red ribbon (HIV/AIDS awareness) be combined into a bold logo that was more than the sum of its parts?
The answer: yes! Of the many marks that I have designed over the years, this is one of my personal favorites. The cause was good, I enjoyed the people I worked with, and I am quite proud of the final result. Even better, my clients loved it!
