This is a noir style story taking place in the early 1970s. This is the follow up to Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s much loved book Mexican Gothic. The goal for this cover was to feature the Latina heroine prominently, as was done for Mexican Gothic, but with a uniqueness and strong connection to the 70s style/era and the noir aspects of the book.

Much time was spent working with the author to capture the desired style from the early 1970s, and also a decidedly noir look and feel. A shadowy figure reflected in the sunglasses creates suspense, and a nice second read surprise for the reader. Special attention was paid to the typography, to allow for strong type presence without obscuring the face. An angled script feels noir and allows for added depth where the curves interact with the image—particularly the loop around the cigarette.

The author and publisher could not be happier with the final outcome. Pre sales and foreign rights licensing of the book suggest that this will be another bestseller for a talented author.
