Our assignment was to create a cohesive infographic to communicate the data set of our choosing. My goal with this project was to choose a topic that ignited my creativity and imagination, yet still held much for me to explore.
Shipwrecks can quickly become fodder to mysterious legends, unexplained tales, and haunting stories. This infographic I created dives into the icy waters of Superior, Michigan, Huron, Ontario, and Erie to explain some famous wrecks and other unique facts about the captivating history of this lake system. I gathered inspiration from old illustrative stamps, depth charts, decorative Victorian design, and even imagery related to pirates and old wrinkly maps. Finding a way to uniquely craft each section of information in such a way that the specific aesthetic profile was retained but each carried its own flare was a challenge I enjoyed. This infographic was created on Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop. It is also accompanied by a 3D Box Set, complete with a bottle of whiskey, a set of five collectable postcards, and a notebook. An animated short using After Effects gives viewers a teaser for the content of the infographic.
