The expansive Whole Foods Market located in Westminster, Colorado, was an extensive undertaking due to the size and quality of design demanded by such an iconic brand. This immense project incorporates striking environmental graphics and décor elements with the local flair that makes this community on the Colorado plains so unique.
The décor was inspired by Whole Foods’ desire to make the food we eat ethical, local, healthy and delicious and the design features clean and playful elements such as giant cutlery, mountains and even up-cycled milk jugs. In order to imitate the sweeping views of the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains that characterize Westminster, everything in the store is organized to flow from one department to another, creating a visual landscape that catches the eye and adds an overall feeling of organization. Another goal of this project was to create areas of discovery, so that within each corner of the store, there is something exciting to explore. This was realized both on a large scale, to catch shoppers’ eyes from afar, and on a more intimate level so that the design experience is multifaceted and rich. Some examples of these unique spaces include hand-stenciled graphics in the café seating area and recycled, vintage windowpanes over the floral department. Additionally, there are monumental, anchoring elements such as the dimensional mountain landscape over the dairy cases and the charming, community-inspired décor overlooking the produce section. Another central design feature is the 3-D typographic sculpture above the prepared foods section. This vibrant, illuminated piece directly incorporates and underscores the Whole Foods brand to further enhance the customer experience.
Helping to build what will surely become a staple hangout for Westminster locals was an exciting opportunity and is reflected in the energetic design that makes Whole Foods Market Bradburn a special place.
