Coronavirus swept the world and we experienced a pandemic like nothing we’ve seen before. NYC has been the largest hotspot of the disease in the United States, with over 200,000 confirmed cases. The city relies heavily on the Metro system, which could become a health hazard when it comes to social distancing regulations.
Based on the original MTA Brand Guidelines (M. Vigenlli, 1970), and following current MTA regulations an extension system was created to apply to COVID-19 safety mandates. The system introduces a new color that contrasts the interior oranges and yellows in the subway cars and includes environmental graphics, an icon system, signage, and wayfinding.
This system can be used in a variety of ways and applications using colors and patterns specific to COVID-19 throughout the subway system.
