I traveled to the Bauhaus school sites in Germany, and evaluated the lines and distillation of form within the architecture, furniture and artwork created by Bauhaus masters. The letter forms were influenced by these findings.
Modular Grotesk is a display typeface inspired by the Bauhaus school. The letterforms are based on the typography of Joost Schmidt, who included a four story "E" on one of his exhibition posters. A multi-story system of capitals encourages Gropius's ideal use of lowercase while also creating modular shapes that can be employed to create patterns and 3-D shapes.
