First conceived nearly a century ago, the first segment of New York City's Second Avenue Subway opened in January 2017 with the completion of its first phase. This includes the expansion of the 63rd Street/Lexington Avenue station as well as three new stations at 72nd Street, 86th Street, and 96th Street.
C&VE worked closely with the MTA and the design team over a 10-year period to implement a signage and wayfinding program into the distinctively different stations.
Amid stunning architecture and impressive works of public art riders easily find their way thanks to the fully integrated signage and wayfinding system. The sign program reinforces and extends the MTA’s branded Subway graphics system.
