This was taken on a personal assignment in Death Valley National Park to document the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. It is part of of an ongoing series documenting sand dunes all over the world.
The image is intended to be printed large-scale in order to engage the viewer and invite them to experience the moment.
My fascination with sand dunes comes from the fact that they are always changing, never the same. Sand not only represents vastness and fluidity but also the passage of time. The result is a sense of space but also isolation and stillness that is almost otherworldly. Time slows down and the viewer is allowed to take part of this fleeting moment and be part of something greater.
