The Massachusetts College of Art and Design (Massart) approached us to design their 2012/13 annual report to engage with existing as well potential donors. The report needed to showcases a breadth of art so that the audience, no matter what type of artist, felt represented and engaged and inspired to give. An important goal was to create a design with a big impact on a low budget. We were particularly excited about this assignment, because our team is made up of Massart alumni.
We chose to leverage existing photography of artwork from the Massart auction. Sculpture, metals, photography, design, painting and more were included to engage recipients of many art backgrounds while eliminating cost for new photography. We designed the report as an oversized (12"x18") newspaper style piece. With this approach the production cost stayed low, because we only used 12 pages, unbound (folded only) and printed on an newspaper appropriate, thinner paper stock. Our team at Opus values training and mentorship. For this project, designed for Massart by Massart alumni, we wanted to go full circle and leverage it to teach Massart students about the design and print production process. We achieved great results: a beautiful piece that engaged the creative audience of all disciplines, a high response rate, stayed within the assigned budget, featured in the Massart alumni newsletter to showcase our educational approach.
