Freedom of expression is a right that the Western world takes for granted. But in many countries, such as Iran, innocent people are persecuted and imprisoned daily due to their pleas for democracy and freedom of the press or for exposing human rights abuses. The 4Tomorrow association has asked to design poster to draw attention to, and take action against, the repression of freedom of expression.
When i started to work on the brief i was inspired by the tragical facts that happened in Iran during the presidential elections. I decided to design a very politically charged image of controversial Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad standing before a large crowd of himself. Also the colors that used are symbolic, invoking memories of the 2009 Iranian presidential elections and the civil unrest that followed.
The poster was selected as one of the best of the Poster for Tomorrow contest. It was exhibited at Les Arts décoratifs - Palais du Louvre (Paris, France), LaTriennale Design Museum (Milan, Italy), and in other 24 cities all over the world, from USA to South Korea. Moreover it was published in magazines in Iran, Ecuador and in more than 50 blogs about political, graphic design and information in general, most of which was Middle East based blogs.
