Create a poster campaign for Thyroid Awareness Month to encourage people to check their necks for signs of thyroid disease. This campaign is part of the ongoing social platform #HealthAwareNext, which activates a year in disease awareness.
An estimated 20 million Americans have thyroid disease, yet up to 60% are unaware of it. Further, many aren’t sure exactly where this strange, butterfly-shaped organ is. Our CHECK YOUR NECK campaign was designed to elicit the “OMG, could that be me?” response, identify the location of the thyroid, and provide simple instructions for a 4-step self-check (take a sip of water, look in the mirror, swallow, and observe). The poster was placed in kitchens, bathrooms, and near drinking fountains, accompanied by hand mirrors and drinking cups, so that people could perform the test on the spot.
All cups quickly disappeared as people performed the test. The poster was shared on social media and shared on channels for thyroid disease survivors.
